Tuning Snare Drum

Below are a few examples of the various drum keys that you can use for tuning snare drum. Don't forget to check out my free Beginner Drum Lessons for more help on tuning your snare. You'll learn how to change heads and get a solid, consistent tone. You can also find snare lugs, snare heads, and snare drum keys.

Tuning Keys

Ahead Klip It

A standard key that clips to your snare or almost anywhere. Keep your gear within easy reach with this model.

Evans DADK Magnetic Head

A magnetic head keeps this one tight against the snare drum tuning rods.

DW SM800 Keychain

Another basic one that clips to your keychain.

Vic Firth Cast Metal Cross

Keep your tuning gear handy with this Gothic Necklace design.

Rhythm Tech Protorq Drum Key Tuning Package

You can change snare heads quickly with this speedy design.

Tuning Wrenches and Bits

For those drummers who like their toys, you may want to check out these heavy duty tuning tools. You'll be changing heads like a pit crew changes tires.

Evans Drill Bit Drum Key

Chrome-plated and drop-forged for extreme durability, the Bit Key has a 1/4 inch hexagonal shaft for use with most cordless drills and screwdrivers. Speedy tuning.

Cannon Percussion Drill Bit Drum Key

Cannons line of drill bits fits most standard size drills.

Rhythm Tech RT7350 Protorq

Allows you to preselect a tension level for tuning your snare. Uses a thumbwheel with numeric settings, which lets you quickly and accurately tune all your drum lugs without under tightening or over tightening. The Protorq alerts you when a lug has been sufficiently tightened. Takes the guesswork out of tuning.

Evans DATK

Torque style wrench that also has presets that you set. Also has a magnetic head that grasps the tension rod tightly.
