Paradiddle Diddle

The paradiddle diddle drum rudiment is closely related to the Double Paradiddle. It has the same amount of notes, but the sticking pattern is different.

The Double Paradiddle is played with a RLRLRR or LRLRLL snare pattern. The Paradiddle-Diddle uses a RLRRLL or LRLLRR snare sticking. It may help to think of it as a Single Paradiddle with an extra double sticking on the end.

This short video shows you how to play this rudiment. It's broken up into right and left handed parts so you can clearly see how to play each pattern.

Check out the exercises below for a few ideas on utilizing these rudiments. Personally, I prefer to just repeatedly play the rudiments over and over gradually increasing speed, but sometimes, these snare drum exercises, can help you with other important aspects of rudiments, like stick control. Learn how to get the most out of your Paradiddle Diddle practice.

This exercise focuses on the right handed sticking and breaks the second one up into a different rhythm using the same RLRRLL pattern.

This exercise focuses on the left handed sticking.

The final exercise combines both patterns.
