DW Drums

Here I will try to give a brief overview of the DW drums that DW has to offer. Descriptions have been divided up into their respective series.

Collector's Series

This is the custom-made line of DW drums available. You pick the shell, sizes, finishes and colors. Tailor made in America. Choose either Maple or Birch for your shells, horizontal or vertical grain, built in bottoms or X-shell technology. Choose from over seventy different shell sizes, hundreds of finish possibilities and customize your hardware.

Classics Series

These kits were designed to capture the essence of kits played in the 30's to 50's. Shells are poplar/mahogany with oversized maple reinforcement hoops and a "butter" bearing edge. Available in vintage finishes to capture the feel of drumming's early days. Kits are customizable with more vintage options like T-rods for the bass and a bass mounted cymbal arm.

Jazz Series

A special blend of maple and gum woods is used in these shells to produce a warmer tone that is more compatible with jazz music. The shells are reminiscent of the 8-ply gum shells of the 50', 60's and 70's, but with the newly designed "butter" bearing edge. Perfect for jazz musicians, but the maple/gum shell makes it a great fit for any genre with it's wide range of tuning capabilities.

Eco-X Project

The "green" label is put on just about everything these days, so it was only a matter of time before it hit the drumming world. These shells are comprised of an environmentally friendly Bamboo/Birch shell that utilizes DW's new X-Shell technology. Available in Natural or Desert Sand finish. Great for the environmentally conscious musician.

What is X-Shell Technology?

It builds upon the vertical low timbre (VLT) cross-laminating process. They found that laminating the inside shells vertically reduces the tension of the shell. Less tension produces a lower sound. The X-Shell is a fully vertical shell which may be the lowest sounding drum on the market.
