Drum Lessons Online

Looking for drum lessons online? I've been busy putting up free Beginner Drum Lessons that will teach you the basic drumming concepts you'll need to begin playing the drums. You can also learn more advanced techniques on my Advanced Free Drum Lessons page.

Below is an example of some of the great drumming videos that I have found online. They demonstrate various rudiments and how they should sound. When learning rudiments, it is important that you start slow and work your speed up eventually. Most of the online video lessons demonstrate a slower speed which is great for learning.

This is a single stroke roll. Each stick hits only one time. The hardest part about this rudiment is making sure that you don't use the Double Stroke Method. You can see this plainly at a slow speed. Alternate your hits R,L,R,L,R,L,R,L.

Here is what the drum roll looks like in notation.

This is the single stroke four online lessons. Again be sure to use the single stroke sticking.

Again in notation.

The third rudiment is the single paradiddle. See my lesson on the Paradiddle for a more in depth explanation. You may want to count outloud, 1 E & A 2 E & A. Another method is to say, PAR-A-DID-ILL while you play it. You may prefer not to count at all. Use what works best for you.

How it appears in notation

If you prefer lessons through written materials or would like to explore rudiments on a more in-depth level, you should check out these Drumming Instruction Books or look into some of my Drum Sheet Music.
