This will provide you with a much deeper bass sound than smaller shells. Eighteen inches is pretty much standard now on most new drums. Also, if you have the money, I would recommend buying a bass shell that does not have toms mounted to it. It will be more expensive, but I hear drummers on various forums say how much they have loved the switch from tom-mounted drums to "free-floating" drums.
